The Icelandic horse is a 1000 year old riding horse!
It is for different “work”, for free time and for sport!
It is for people and children.

In Iceland they have not have streets,. All what they like to have and move must be on the horse!
They have not a wagon! The way to the next Neighbour is far (mostly more than 3 km)
The next shop is around 60km and the next city can be longer!

So they have look that they have good riding horses.

All not good horses they have eat! And they still do it!

A Iceland horse stop to grow with around 7 years.
So we begin to train them to ride with 5 years or later!
But you can use them to ride up to 30 / 35  years.

They need not a closed stable!
The best is pasture! And a open stable!
They need a open stable more in the summer time than in the winter time!

A Icelandic horse can be over 65km in pace!
In canter a horse is around 27 km fast.

The Icelandic horse is the once horse with a own world cup!

The Icelandic horse you can find in:
Iceland, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, on the Faeroe Islands, in Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland and the USA.

To ride them in the other gait (canter, trot, walk) is nearly the same!
Only to ride in T?lt or Pace, it is a different!

But to ride canter, trot or walk, we must ride more like a „Spanish rider„!
Not like warm blood rider.
Reason: our horses are more briefly / more compact. Thus our riding way is similarly those the Andalusier, Berber, camrgue horses.

It is not possible to say “How to ride t?lt/pace”

That is like to start a “new ride”!

You can not learn to ride, only you read in a book!
Yes if you have started to ride it is very good to become more information, but to really ride you need a horse (!!!) and a teacher (he/she must see you and your horse).

Yes it is all natural!!!!

It is not easy to tell in internet/letter… How to do it!

To ride a gait horse (not only Icelandic, we have much more in the world!!!)
Is the heaviest riding you can do!
Because we have all the same like other horses /ponies!
And than we have the gait, too!
But it is very  very  nice to ride them! For that it will be very nice to Sweat

Every horse is a individual so I  can not  (other people not, too - yes if you know the horse and the rider!!!) can tell how to do it!

But some points that can be (must not!!!!)
You must the horse in the back set! and somewhat more assume in front/hold. That is now only completely simply said!!!! And the annhemen/hold is with each horse different! Also set that!!!! Much experience belongs to!

You see, the rider sit other!

It is all natural!
But one horse has more talent than a other!
The same like dressage! -all horses can do dressage if you learn them - some like it more some not!
In Jump, the same!
So we have horses too they like dressage more or jumping!

Hello!
The horses have 3 gaits like all horses!
But all Icelandic horses have 4 gaits (one more, two more with the back-gait ;-)

And than we have some they can go in 5 gaits!

But all can go “T?lt”, it is a nature-gait!
But the rider must learn to ride them.
Because we would have him really clear.
The horse can be make a cocktail from all other gaits with T?lt.
If the horse good breed it do it not, but if the rider not good, he (the rider) can make the cocktail!

The 5. Gait is “Pass” or English “Pace” it is the fastest gait for horses in the world.
-In America they have pace-race like we in Europe trot-race with sulky! They are much faster than a trot-horse!

The video! Is coming!

The horses are  1,30 m up to 1,40m (sometimes bigger) you can find horses with 1,45 and bigger…

Mostly they are 1,38m around, breeding mares oft 1,30m around!

Where you see it is only one hoof on the ground, it is T?lt!
It is very soft to site!
You site and not go up and down, because all time one hoof are on the ground!

The Iceland horses is a really men-horse! Only in the last 15-20 years are women/children ride them!
You not see it on a picture, but they have a lot of temperament!
They have also a very lovely character , so that we have horses for children, too.

I like more a  fast horse with lovely character for a child, that not afraid is!
Than a afraid horse that slowly go!
So the child can learn very fast good ride!
-of course, the horse must be very good train for a child!!!!-
